I spent five months last winter sailing on the 60 feet catamaran Moana. Crossing the Atlantic ocean and doing 45 landings on various locations in the Caribbean and onwards. I have worked with big sailing boats for years as a photographer but never really lived the daily lifeĀ on board during extended periods. Something I always wanted to try and when my long time friend Johan Salen and his lovely wife Christine got their new boat and asked me to come along, it was just impossible to say no. Good people and also as experienced as you can be. My main duty on bord was to serve as the chef and since food is one of my many passions this worked out great. Never ever cleaned that big fishes before and just getting them on board could be a bit scary. Most of the Caribbean islands has changed with mass tourism. And not to the better. I used to love those islands but these days I rather go to the south Pacific to get away from the crowds. Cuba was a great surprise and much better than in my expectations and after spending some time on various locations there, I couldn’t restrain myself. The music, salsa and all those friendly people captured my heart so I left the boat in Cienfuegos and vent to Havana for a while. Lots of fun, very different and I really love that place. Poor people but with big and friendly hearts who have gone trough very difficult times. Also I have to admit that i missed my skiing and friends in Chamonix a lot and later flew back for some pleasant spring skiing to clear my head and make the winter season somewhat normal. I was happy to hear from the crew later that they also missed my cooking very much…
